Instructors

The Sensei (instructor) at Kodokan is Paul Budden (7th Dan Renshi). Paul has a Level 2 award in Coaching Studies from the University of Gloucester and is a BKA National Coach. He is also the author of Looking at a Far Mountain : A Study of Kendo Kata, was a member of the British team that won Bronze in Malmo '87 and trained in Japan. Currently he is a Championship Co-ordinator for the European Kendo Federation and was the Controller at the 'now acclaimed' 12th World Championships in Glasgow 2003

The guiding influence at Kodokan is Masatake Sumi Sensei, 8th Dan Hanshi, Professor of Physical Education at Fukuoka University of Education, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. A Highly respected International Kendo Master, who has visited the UK annually to host the "Kodokan International Kendo Seminar"
(20 year celebration in 2005)

Assisting Paul:
Kazuyo Matsuda 5th Dan and BKA National Ladies Coach, the highest graded lady kendoka in this country, competing regularly in various National and International competitions, most recently being runner up in the Ladies British Open 2005 and Mumeishi Lady's championships in 2004, and a National referee.
Lesley Molloy, 3rd Dan and Kodokan's Sempai, and John Bates, 3rd Dan, who run the Ichi Byo Shi dojo in Hemel Hempstead for children from 8 and are BKA level 2 registered coaches and qualified First Aiders.
Carl Ranger, 2nd Dan, Adrian Wagstaff, 2nd Dan and Adam Jackson, 2nd Dan who are BKA level 1 registered coaches.

All instructors are insured to teach Kendo.

Club secretary is Adrian Wagstaff.
